Paper and Foamboard Ork Blasta Bommer

While this is not exactly a new paper model from me (Its just the Blue Falcon Aigle II Bomber from Flipit: Paper Combat), it has been modified to be orky and be built with the printouts mounted to foam board in addition to being scaled up to a 16” wingspan.  The Flipit model was based on a WWII Era B-17 bomber, though with superdeformed proportions.  The normal gun posts on the bomber were left empty for the paper model since I had a ton of heavy bolter bits left over for some reason, so I just cut off the back halves, primed them black drybrushed silver and applied a liberal coating of devland mud.  I also took every odd weapon I’d never use in my bits box and attached them to the nose of the craft, even throwing in the heavy flamer and assault cannon from a papercraft terminator on the lower gun housing.  John played it in last weekend’s Apocalypse game over at All Fun & Games in Apex, NC.

The chaos fighters I’d been building got to be used as well.  I was surprised that there was a decent Hell Talon as well made of laser cut acrylic.

Papercraft Chaos Hell Blade fighter

A friend had requested I give the Chaos Hell Blade figter a shot as a papercraft model, and it was a surprisingly simple model to build.  I had a bit of an issue trying to figure out the proper scale and some parts that didn’t have very clear images, but I managed to work through that and recreate the resin kit pretty closely.  One thing I noticed I missed after the fact is that the under-slung autocannons should be twin-linked.  Means I need to go back and edit the front of the weapons pods to cover part of the steeply angled air intake to fit the second row of cannons.

The wings are just thick enough to contain a sheet of pre-cut foamboard, so they end up being pretty sturdy for card models. After testing for any flight characteristics (throwing it across the room) I can confirm that so far, not a single 40k model is designed with anything approaching practical aerodynamics.  I.E.: nothing says advanced atmospheric fighter like exposed hoses, cables and rivets!
